The process

Simple. Transparent.
Guaranteed.

01

Script & budget assessment

We assess cultural eligibility and calculate your Italian spend allocation. The cultural test is a points-based questionnaire — most international productions with Italian elements (locations, crew, post) qualify comfortably.

Week 1–2 · No commitment
02

Preliminary application

Brandon Box files the preliminary tax credit request with the Ministry of Culture (MiC) up to 90 days before production starts. On approval, MiC releases 70% of the projected credit — providing immediate liquidity for the production.

Up to 90 days pre-shoot · 70% released
03

Production in Italy

The credit offsets monthly tax liabilities as costs are incurred — improving cash flow throughout the shoot. We manage all bookkeeping, cost reports, and accountant coordination so the production team can focus on the work.

During production · Monthly offset
04

Final application

Within 180 days of wrap, Brandon Box submits the final application with audited cost reports. MiC releases the remaining 30% of the credit upon approval.

Within 180 days post-wrap · 30% released
05

Liquidity option

The tax credit can be sold to an Italian bank, converting it to immediate cash for the foreign producer at a small discount. This is the route most international productions choose — turning a 40% credit into a 36–37% cash equivalent, available upfront.

Optional · Bank transfer
FAQ

Common questions.

Who is eligible for the 40% tax credit?
International productions of any nationality can access the credit — provided they work with a qualified Italian executive producer like Brandon Box. The production must pass a cultural eligibility test (a points-based questionnaire) and must spend a minimum of €250,000 in Italy.
What costs are eligible?
All production costs incurred in Italy: Italian crew salaries, Italian cast, locations, equipment, hotels, transportation, post-production performed in Italy, and a portion of above-the-line costs (capped at 40% of Italian production costs).
How quickly can we access the funds?
If you sell the credit to an Italian bank, you can typically access cash within weeks of preliminary MiC approval — well before production wraps. Otherwise, 70% is available against tax liabilities at preliminary approval, and 30% within months of final application.
Can the credit be combined with other incentives?
Yes. The national 40% tax credit can be combined with regional incentives — including those from Film Commission Lombardia, with whom Brandon Box partners closely. Stacking these can meaningfully reduce your net Italian cost.
What does Brandon Box do, exactly?
As your Italian executive producer, we handle everything: cultural eligibility, preliminary and final tax credit applications, budget structuring, Italian crew & cast hiring, locations & permits, post-production coordination, financial reporting, and bank liaison for credit liquidation. One point of contact for the entire Italian leg of your production.
Is the 40% rate confirmed and stable?
Yes — the 40% rate is the current confirmed rate for international productions. Italy has maintained a strong national commitment to film incentives across multiple legislative cycles, making it one of Europe's most reliable jurisdictions for production financing.
